Group 4

In the seminar we talked about various definitions of e-learning and our personal point of view.

Later we splitted up in groups. I´m in the computer group and together with Daniel I´ll work on the topics VLE (Virtual Learning Environment) and PLE (Personal Learning Environment).

Continuation – eLearning 2

A great advantage of e-Learning is that it allows to learn everywhere and everytime. With e-Learning international discussions between students, teachers, scientists ect. are possible, too. Furthermore e-Learning is interactive which can be a very motivating aspect for students.

Nevertheless the personal contact is missing in a e-Learning setting. Surely face-to-face contact and discussions are important for many people to keep them active in a learning process.

I think e-Learning is a good addition to presence learning, but can´t substitute it.

For some settings like adult education and training for people who are working, children in hospital or for children who live in places far-off where there are no schools e-Learning is a great opportunity.

What is e-Learning?

Hello again,

during the recent lesson of our course we talked about trackbacks and how to use our weblogs.

Part of our second task is to find a definition of e-Learning which suits to our personal opinion about it.

I´d like to mention two definitons here. Firstly, e-Learning is `the use of new multimedia technologies and the Internet to improve the quality of learning by facilitating access to resources and services as well as remote exchanges and collaboration´ (European E-Learning Action Plan in: Holmes and Gardner, e-Learning concepts and practise, 2006: 14). I chose this definition, because in my opinion e-Learning is a great opportunity to supply and improve attendance learning. On the other hand I have to admit that the definition is pretty broad.

Secondly, `the use of technologies in learning opportunities encompassing flexible learning as well as distance learning; and the use of information and communication technology as a communication and delivery tool, between individuals and groups, to support students and improve the management of learning (Andrews and Haythornthwaite, The SAGE Handbook of E-Learning Research, 2007: 2). I decided to include the second definiton in my article because it mentions more concrete aspects of e-Learning e.g. flexibility and communication.

I didn´t manage the whole task 2 so far and will continue tonight.

Comments are welcome.

Welcome to my first blog!

My name is Martina and I´m studying pedagogics, psychology and sociology at the University of Hamburg.

In the seminar “premesis of virtual learning” I´d like to find out which different types of eLearning do exist and in which contexts they are useful. Also I wish to gain more practical experience in using wikis, blogs ect. Besides it sounds interesting to me to work together with students from different countries.

So far I don´t have much experience with eLearning. I just attended courses in media pedagogy at university.

I´m looking forward to the seminar.

See you.
